What’s with the “Website of the Year”?
Listed on Chris’ site is an announcement that his site won the 2014 website of the year in the category of communities. This is for “the website with the highest average score on content, navigation, design and recommendation intention”. Though the awards are only for UK web sites, the company that runs it is based in the Netherlands. They give two awards in each category, one being the most popular vote and the other technical (which is what freepostcodelottery.com won).

So what’s not to like? Only the ridiculous comments on the site from people who simply do not understand what a lottery is let alone a free one and cannot be bothered to read the rules.
It takes just a few minutes twice daily to check all the chances of your postcode appearing. Too busy? Then don’t bother to join. Just do not expect to win anything.

As free lotteries go and if you do live in the UK, this is cute. The fact that there is always a winner is good. There is really nothing to do except get on board. The jackpot for winning isn’t one of those mega lotteries but winning is winning – right!
Is it my imagination working overtime here? It does seem to be that many winners are from Birmingham/Swansea/Midlands/Lincoln areas. Very rare for Norfolk or Essex postcodes.
I’ve been in 2 lotteries for over a year and none of the winners have been anywhere near here! What picks a postcodes a preprogrammed application machine, or pull from a hat?
You have to remember that this is not a lottery between every single person in the UK, it is a lottery between all those that have submitted their postcode. Many areas are more populated than others, therefore more people playing, therefore more chance of a regional postcode being picked than somewhere else.
