Michigan Lottery Review

The main page of Michigan Lottery

Looking at the Michigan State Lottery, wow, they offer a wide variety of games, including the cross-US Powerball and Mega Millions. On top of that, the state has its games that are readily accessible via the official website. Michigan Lottery was initially set up in 1972 to support the public school system. That means that part of the revenue goes to education initiatives. With every single ticket that you buy, you’ll be helping worthy causes in the state.

MI Powerball & MI Mega Millions

It’s hard not to be aware of Powerball Michigan and Mega Millions Michigan with all the hype of the big numbers involved in their jackpots. Powerball is played every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Mega Millions is played Tuesday and Saturday. Mega Millions and Powerball are the two biggest lotteries in the US (and even across the globe), and they’re known to produce numerous millionaires on an annual basis. As a result, the interest in these two games is understandably high in Michigan.

Michigan Lottery’s Own Game

MI Lottery offers its Michigan Lotto 47, which replaced Winfall in 2005. It is played Wednesday and Saturday, with players choosing 6 numbers between 1 to 47. There is no bonus number or ball. Lotto 47 has a minimum guaranteed jackpot of one million dollars, which naturally turns it into a favorite Michigan player option.

More Games at Lottery MI

Michigan Fantasy 5 is a lovely mid-range lottery played daily at 7:29 pm (EST). Players choose 5 numbers between 1 to 39. There are 4 tiers of prizes paying down to correctly picking 2 numbers. Jackpots start at 100,000 dollars, and they grow if there’s no winner for the respective drawing. The increment by which the daily jackpot grows is at least 5,000 dollars.

Other than Fantasy 5 and Lotto 47, Michigan also has its own Keno version. Players have to choose 10 numbers from a pool of 80 in the game. Keno has a daily drawing and the lucky winner who matches 10 numbers becomes 250,000 dollars richer. Other than the top prize, numerous additional tiers boost the popularity of Keno.

Lotto MI’s Daily 3 and Daily 4

Michigan Daily 3 and Michigan Daily 4 are played twice a day, seven days a week. These are the small local lotteries that players tend to love. Inexpensive to play, quick and easy, Daily 3 and Daily 4 are both worth a try.

There are exciting games with combinations for winning, including ‘straight,’ ‘boxed,’ ‘wheeled’ and two-way. Players choose a sequential number using (in the case of Daily 3) three numbers from 0 to 9. They can be duplicated hence winning ‘boxed’ with a number like 788. This is one lottery that it’s a good idea to make sure you get your tickets checked with a retailer as there are so many different ways to win.

More on Michigan State Lottery

Lucky for Life is a game where you can win $1,000 a day for a lifetime. You can purchase tickets online for just $2. The drawings take place on Monday and Thursday at 10:35 p.m.

Club Keno at Lotto MI

On top of Keno, Michigan also has its Club Keno – yep, a bit confusing, but they are two separate things. Club Keno is played every four minutes from 6:00 am to 2:00 am. It involves picking 10 numbers from 1 to 80. The jackpot goes out if you pick the correct 10 numbers from the 20 drawn. They also offer two other twists. Choose the ‘The Jack’ option, which gives you an additional 8 quick pick numbers, which factor into an additional prize scale. Chose ‘The Kicker’ option, and any winnings are multiplied by a number between 1 and 5 depending on what comes up on the wheel spun before the game.

Who Can Play at Michigan Lottery?

For any of the games of Lotto MI, players must be 18 years of age or over. MI Lottery allows non-US citizens to play but underline, there will be 30% federal tax withholding. For Michigan residents and non-residents (people from other states), the state tax is 4.25% and the federal tax of 25%. Tax is only withheld on prizes over $50,000 though there are specific forms to fill in for winnings between $5,000 and $50,000. Checking your Michigan lottery winning numbers through their website at Michiganlottery.com is excellent for the prize breakdown.

Lotto MI’s Customer Service

Their FAQ is pretty extensive, though in many ways almost too much information. Each of their lotteries offered has its FAQ. They provide an email contact address as well as an online form for public questions. There is a telephone number though only available during business hours.

Online Gameplay at Michigan Lottery: Mission Possible

Many states limit the purchase of lottery tickets to retail venue visits. Luckily, Michigan has gone ahead to modernize things a bit. Today, Michigan residents and state visitors can get their tickets in stores and online.

Online ticket sales are available for the standard lottery games already mentioned in the article and a couple of additional online opportunities. These include instant games (King of Clubs, Queen of Diamonds, Instant Keno Multiplier, Blackjack Doubler, VIP Gold, etc.), Fast Cash games (20X the Cash, Black Jack, Bowling Bucks), and pull-tab games ($15,000 Jackpot, Bank Buster, Big Win, Bigfoot’s Fortune, Lucky 7s, Neon Bars, etc.).

The diversity is vast, and you can easily get lost on their website. Ticket costs start from 0.05 dollars, and the most expensive entries go up to over 20 dollars for Club Keno. Players can win both the progressive jackpots with the standard lottery games and fixed amounts in the range from 5,000 to over one million dollars.

There have been some complaints about the website being sluggish, and there have also been some reports of the exclusive online games being rigged. According to 2015 data, 86,000 people had signed up for the online ticket buying option within five months of it being launched. Current data suggest that players are spending 2.4 million dollars a week on online lotteries! These people have a legitimate reason to complain if the website isn’t working well or if the number of winning options is limited.

If you do a bit of online research, you will come across dozens of conspiracy theories (numbers being drawn ahead of time, online lotteries that can never be won, etc.), but we highly doubt it. Remember that Michigan Lottery is a state-operated entity that has a reputation to maintain. Also, it’s already winning huge from the winning of tickets. Imagine the scandal that would break out if anything was rigged. Thus, while online games may be tough to win, they are legitimate. If you have concerns about those, stick to the statewide lotteries – these provide enough of an opportunity for monetization. Is Jackpocket safe for Michiganians?

  1. Online games are definitely rigged. In games where certain matches give higher payouts, those icons will 99 times out of 100 always have a different icon fall in so that never matches. The same pattern many times. If it was actually random, those matches would actually be made. It’s very obvious that the games are set up that way. I’ve been playing on the site for at least 2 years, and this has become very obvious.

  2. Horrible, just lost 17 spins in a row on their new mega card game when I up my bet to the point that I’d actually win something. Can play and win on the low min bet for a little, you’ll lose it all sooner or later, but never up your bet it’s pointless, odds are worse the more you play for, where it should be the complete opposite. F online Mi lottery, don’t waste the time.

  3. Not gonna lie. I’ve been playing this site for the better part of 3 years, on and off. I try not to dump money into it unless the lucky wheel offers an online bonus that is worth it. In terms of winning, the most I’ve ever won was around $75 on one game. I’ve had a couple of lucky streaks of maybe $20 to $30 here or there but that’s it. I’ve never come close to a jackpot. I see the main page displaying winning results for prizes that would be the larger priced ticket costs that I’d rather not chance my luck on. For all of the money I’ve put into this site, even winning one of the minimal $500 prizes would feel like this site is trying to offer balance to players, but I couldn’t even fathom some of these games dropping large sums of cash with the algorithms they’re programmed with. I’ve seen most of the game patterns. None of them feel like this site is run honestly. It is Michigan after all. God knows that the schools and the roads are probably relying on this site to rip people off at this point.

  4. Michigan lottery is a scam I bought 10 random tickets in MI with zero winners I went to Florida for a Week for work bought 10 random tickets and won something on 7 tickets. On the way home stopped in bought 10 random tickets in Ohio and won 6 out of 10 and just to test my theory I 10 games online from my home state of Texas again I bought 10 random tickets and I won in. 6 tickets. So I went online and bought 10 more tickets from Florida again and once again I won 6 out of 10 tickets Last but not least I bought 10 more random tickets from Michigan and this time I didn’t win any tickets at all .. In conclusion, I can say the Michigan lottery is a scam I would like to know other people’s take on this issue.

    • Hello Jasper, I agree I’ve noticed many years ago it was much better I could play the same 5 numbers and maybe hit 1-2 times a week!!!! They definitely changed more algorithms because there are too many times specially in a row they’ll put numbers next to yours. I highly doubt it’s truly random it’s rigged in favor of the house and for the state I wouldn’t be surprised the state is owned by a private corporation.

    • Rick,
You are absolutely correct about Florida giving you a hit on your numbers.. They also pay well on scratch tickets to keep you coming back and knowing that usually most ppl will turn around and put the money back into the tickets.. It’s sad to get a small stack of scratch tickets here in Michigan to win NOTHING…I’m OVER PLAYING HERE!!!

  5. Unfortunately, I must agree that the games are near equivalent to scratchoffs one buys at a retailer. I’m perplexed about it, because they aren’t at least competing with online gambling sites. My coin in online or at a brick and mortar is over 100K per month. The online sites here in MI I have found but two decent sites, somewhat equivalent to good off strip casinos like Gold Coast, South Point or The Orleans, for example. I’m pretty sure the MI Lottery people are fully aware of these ratings but simple don’t care. So, in conclusion, go elsewhere. Again, there are but two sites that knowledgeable gamblers can win, but I leave it to you to discover these two for yourselves.
