Could It be Two? Twice in One Day Lottery Winners!

Twice in One Day Lottery Winners

Most can only imagine winning a huge jackpot on the lottery just once. How about being lucky enough to win twice, and not only that – but on the same day? Here are the quite frankly unbelievable but true stories of four twice in one day lottery winners.

Mario Martinez

Mario Martinez, a lottery player hailing from Los Angeles bought two winning lottery tickets from the same store on the same day – an almost unheard of occurrence. California Lottery released a press statement saying that the lucky man bought both a ‘Twisted Scratchers’ ticket and a ‘50X the Money’ ticket from local store Extra Plus. Both tickets turned out to be winners – the first earning him $1000 and the second earning him $1,000,000 When Martinez went to the Lottery’s Santa Fe Springs District Office to have his tickets checked and found out the news he told lottery officials that he and his wife are unsure how they’re going to spend their winnings once they receive their giant check! “We haven’t thought about it since we don’t have it!” he said. Extra Plus is already noted as a seemingly lucky retailer as it looks like as many as four hundred winning tickets per week are sold there with average winnings of $4,000 per week if you have a winning ticket.

Kimberly Morris

North Carolina resident Kimberly Morris, the improbable event of winning the lottery twice in one day happened on Monday. A press release from the North Carolina Education Lottery stated that Morris had bought a Diamond Dazzler scratch-off ticket from her local Harris Teeter store in Wake Forest that had a potential $4,000,000 jackpot. She scratched off a $10,000 prize. She went to collect her prize money at the lottery headquarters in Raleigh, Morris and decided to try her luck again, purchasing yet another Diamond Dazzler ticket that also had a possible $4,000,000 win. However, this time she couldn’t believe her luck when she scratched off the $1,000,000 prize. “I wasn’t really expecting much, I just enjoy playing the lottery.” she commented after her wins. Her husband, John, was skeptical when she called to tell him the news. “She was freaking out on the phone, I couldn’t understand her, and so I told her to slow down. When I realized what she was saying, I didn’t believe her at first. I had to come home and see it for myself.”

Mark Maltz

Mark Maltz a 42 year old Tow Company worker from Michigan stopped at a BP gas station, located in Commerce Township on Friday to fill up one of the company trucks he was working in at the time. Whilst he was paying for his fuel he purchased a scratch-off ticket and banked himself $10, according to the Michigan Lottery. He decided to try his luck again and bought a Fast Cash ticket that got him $15. He then purchased a $5 Fast Cash Blackjack ticket and a $10 Jackpot Slots Fast Cash ticket. The latter ticket matched three like symbols on one of the 15 spins and won him the progressive jackpot. “When I saw I was a winner, I started freaking out. I just kept thinking: ‘I can’t believe I just won! I’m going to sit on this for a little while and decide how to best invest it and make it last me a long time,” he said when asked how he responded and how he would spend his winnings.

Michelle Shuffler

Here’s a third story to bring us proof that this phenomenon is really possible. Working Mum Michelle Shuffler thought she had hit the jackpot when she won $7,500 on a scratch card on Sunday – a nice little nest egg and a tidy sum, but she decided to play another game and ended up scooping a whopping $750,000 Speaking after her unbelievable win, she said “’It’s quite astonishing. It’s a miracle!” adding, We don’t normally play the lottery. My husband just happened to have some cash in his pocket. At the last second, he decided to buy a ticket.” From this win, they decided to try their hand again and bought a second ticket from a different store just twenty two miles down the road from where they bought the first one. This time the couple scooped $750,000. Instead of taking the full amount, they have chosen to accept 20 yearly after-tax payments of £38,000. She said she plans to use to money to pay for her children’s university fees – what better way to spend the money than securing your children’s future?

Winning Multiple Times in One Day Is Not as Crazy as It Sounds

When winning just once seems impossible, it seems truly insane that some people have managed to win twice in one day, but statistician Ronald Wasserstein of the American Statistical Association says statistically is really isn’t as baffling as it sounds.  “It is very unlikely that an individual will win two large prizes on scratch-off tickets on the same day, however, it’s very likely that it will happen to someone somewhere” he commented Wasserstein estimates the probability of winning $1 million and $10,000 on two tickets from scratch-off tickets is about 1 in 44,000,000. Despite it not being a regularly happening occurrence, Wasserstein said it will happen more often than people think during the course of any given year. “Since millions of people play the lottery every day, we can actually expect things like this to happen a few times a year somewhere in the U.S.” he added. There are people out there who believe there are lots of things you can do to increase the chances of winning big. One of these is Richard Lustig, a seven-time lottery winner. He told CBS in 2013 that the secret is in picking your own numbers, and he penned a book about his theory which many people have since become disciples of. Wasserstein, the expert statistician, said the only thing that can increase your chance of winning is to buy more tickets…the key is, to play more often!
